Coronavirus and your Children (updated 9/1/21)
Dear Back to Basics Families,
Hello! This has certainly been a challenging year for all of us! Fortunately, we at Back to Basics Pediatrics have been able to work with our families and be there for all of your concerns regarding COVID-19. We are committed to seeing your child - both sick and well using our necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.
I wrote that former paragraph one year ago and unfortunately, not much has changed! We were hoping for a return to "normalcy", but we are back in the pandemic with the Delta strain emerging.
I am urging all adults and children 12 and older to get vaccinated! The Pfizer vaccine has been FDA approved and it is our only way to keep our children and ourselves healthy. We are providing BOTH the Pfizer Covid vaccine in our office as well as the Influenza vaccines. For the Covid vaccine, I am vaccinating adults as well.
We have been testing children in the office with the Rapid Antigen test, but will soon be getting the molecular PCR testing in the office. I will be able to rapidly test for Influenza A, Influenza B, and Covid with one nasal swab. This technology will have close to 100% accuracy for both positive and negative results. Also, I will continue to have testing for RSV and strep throat with rapid tests.
For those patients with a known exposure, we can offer testing in the car, but this will be on a case by case basis. If your child needs a note for school, they will need an appointment to be seen by the doctor. Please call our office with questions - we will try our best to accommodate your needs.
Please continue to wear your mask in public or large gatherings. If you are vaccinated, you do not need to worry about being quarantined if you have a Covid exposure, but will need to be tested.
As usual, I am available 24/7, including weekends and evenings. Please feel free to call me with any concerns or questions!
