Coronavirus and your Children
Dear Back to Basics Families,
Hello! I hope you have all enjoyed your summer and found ways to have fun in spite of the pandemic! We have been busy in the office with school physicals and taking your calls regarding illness and COVID exposures.
Unfortunately, things are changing rapidly in regard to testing sites and recommendations. Please visit the CDC.gov website for specifics.
In regards to who needs to be tested, I would only be concerned about having your child (or yourself) tested if you are not feeling well with fever, cough, and shortness of breath OR if you have had DIRECT contact with someone who is COVID positive.
My wonderful office manager, Lori, has put together a list of locations that are offering COVID Antigen or Molecular testing as of 8/26/20. In addition, you can always visit the IDPH website for a listing of locations available for testing.
I currently have a molecular test for COVID-19 in my office that takes 3-4 days for results. I am reserving that for patients who present with questionable symptoms and have no known exposure. All sick visits are being asked to enter through our back entrance to avoid contact with our waiting room. Thankfully, everything has been working very smoothly!
For those patients with a known exposure, I would prefer having them go to a testing center for the safety of my staff and our patients. Please reference our list on this site.
Also, I will be getting a rapid COVID test this Fall for those questionable patients or children who need to return to daycare. Please continue to wear your masks and limit large groups or gatherings! Remember...
the majority of children have very mild illness, so use your best judgement, but do not create anxiety for yourself or your child.
As usual, I am available 24/7, including weekends and evenings. Please feel free to call me with any concerns or questions!
